We offer classes in handbuilding, wheel throwing and skill building in small group settings. All clay classes come with a 25lb bag of clay. Enrolled students can sign up for Labs for additional studio time beyond class sessions. Registration is required for Labs.

4x4-PLACE SETTINGS

(Intermediate Wheel) with Christie Goodfellow

Mondays, 6:00-8:30PM

12 week session: September 9th-November 25th

    For ages 16 and older.

    Making a dinnerware place setting set involves planning and repetition. During this extended class session we will devote time for discussing design considerations and planning a workflow for making multiples, testing glazes, and wheel-throwing in batches. Throwing demonstrations will focus on replicating forms and specific shaping techniques for plates, bowls, mugs, and as requested by class participants. The goal of the class is for each student to complete a cohesive set of 3-4 different forms, with the quantity of 4 each. Participants should anticipate purchasing additional clay during the session and spending a few hours each month working outside of class time (sketching, collecting inspiration, attending a lab/working independently during membership hours or in their own studio, etc). 

    One 25lbs bag of clay will be provided. Towels and aprons encouraged.

Beginner wheel

    *Last class will be 1 hour to gather and discuss finished projects.

    For ages 16 and older.

    The 8-week course will provide introductory exposure to, and skill building in the art of wheel throwing. Students will learn the basic skills of throwing on the potter’s wheel through creating functional, unique and personal pieces. Focus is on centering and throwing basic forms for students with little to no prior pottery experience. 

    One 25lb bag of clay is provided.  Towel and Apron encouraged.

    Cancellation/Refund policy: Full refund a week+ before the start of the class. 50% refund 3-7 days before the class begins. No refund within 72 hours of the first class.

Handbuilding

  • Session 1: Beginner Handbuilding

    Wednesdays: 9/4, 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23- 6:30-8:30

    For ages 16 and older.

    Whether you are just starting to explore clay as a medium or hoping to diversify your existing clay skills, Beginning Handbuilding has a lot to offer. In this 8 week class, we will explore multiple handbuilding techniques (such as slab work, coil building, and pinch pots) as we learn to handbuild various functional forms. We will practice adding our own personal touches to our work through different surface treatments including texturing, underglazing, and glazing. Join us for the fun, the inspiration, and the community!

    Please contact the instructor before the first class to inform them of any student with special needs and to determine if the student needs to be accompanied by an assistant or support person for the classes.

    One 25lb bag of clay is provided. Towel and Apron encouraged.

    Session 2: Intermediate Handbuilding

    Wednesdays: 10/30, 11/6, 11/13, 11/20, 12/4, 12/11, 12/18 (no class 11/27)- 6:30-9:00 pm

    This 7 week course is intended for those who have proficient experience with the basics of handbuilding and who wish to further develop those skills and learn more intermediate level techniques. Additionally, we will work on combining basic handbuilding techniques and dive deeper into surface treatments. To get the most out of this class, it is highly recommended that students also plan to register for and attend at least one LAB session a week.


    One 25lb bag of clay is provided. Towel and Apron encouraged.

Wheel Foundations 1

(Beginner Wheel) with Kari Zelson Robertson

    This class introduces skills, materials and tools needed to throw, trim, fire, and glaze work. Classes offer weekly demonstrations, examples of work, sharing of video references, practice time, opportunity for feedback and individual help. Considerations of form and function will be threaded throughout the session.

    Extra practice time is also available in the form of “Labs” during the week. The fun is baked in and tastes so sweet!

  • Tuition: $450 (includes one 25lb bag of clay)

    Basic Tool Set: $20 (your personal set to keep)

Wheel 101

(Beginner/Intermediate Wheel) with Gina Inzinna

8 weeks: September 5th-October 24th

    For ages 16+

    This 8 week class is designed for anyone new to throwing on the potter's wheel, those wishing to polish up on rusty skills or as a follow up to any other beginner wheel class. Gina will overview the entire wheel throwing process with hands-on demonstrations in each class. Focusing on Bowls and cylinders, the building blocks of wheel work, students will cover all the basics and more, such as handles and decorative carving. There will be plenty of time for one on one Q&A, assistance, and individualized demonstrations. Gina is a very thorough and encouraging teacher and loves to see students progress!

    This class gets you in the studio for weekly instruction, as well as access to 3  practice lab sessions per week, especially designed for enrolled students.

    The final class will be a review and discussion lasting only 1 ½ hours. All other classes are 2 ½ hours each.

beginner wheel

Sundays, 4:00-6:30PM

8 weeks: September 22nd-November 11th

    *The final class will be a review and discussion class lasting only 1 and a 1/2 hour, in which we will share our finished work and celebrate our accomplishments. All other classes are 2 ½ hours each.

    This 8-session course is designed for anyone new to throwing on the potter’s wheel. The course will cover the basics of the entire wheel-throwing process from centering & throwing through trimming & glazing. Kate will demonstrate cylinder shapes, including cups and vases, as well as wider, rounder bowl forms. Each class will also include plenty of time for guided practice, with flexibility to address any specific questions and interests that may arise, such as making handles for mugs or adding surface decoration.

    One 25lb of clay will be provided. Recommended to bring: 

    • A hand or dish towel

    • An apron


     

  • Tuition: $420

    (includes clay, tools, shelf space, glazes and firing)
